Proper Charging is Crucial Charge Before Initial Use!

To ensure the best performance and longevity of your AGM battery, it is essential to follow proper charging guidelines:

• Max Charge Voltage: AGM batteries should only be charged with AGM-compatible chargers that have a maximum output voltage of 2.4 volts per cell (14.4V for 12V batteries and 19.2V for 16V batteries). Exceeding this voltage can cause the battery to “gas” and lead to permanent damage.

• Avoid Overcharging: Voltage above 2.4 volts per cell will cause the battery to vent oxygen, which cannot be restored. Take care to monitor the charging process carefully.

• Avoid Undercharging: Ensure the battery is properly charged before initial use. The open-circuit voltage should be above 2.1 volts per cell (12.6V for 12V, 14.7V for 14V, and 16.8V for 16V batteries). Undercharging will harm the battery’s lifespan.

About the XS Power 12-Volt AGM Performance Battery

The XS Power 12-Volt AGM Performance battery is a sealed-valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery with six cells. It features Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology, where the electrolyte is suspended against the plates using a fibrous material. This design ensures no acid leakage even if the case were ruptured.

• AGM vs. Gel-Cell: AGM batteries like the XS Power Performance battery differ from gel-cell batteries, which suspend the electrolyte in a gel form. AGM batteries are generally more reliable and leak-proof.

• How AGM Works: AGM batteries operate on a slight positive air pressure within each cell, allowing the water produced during discharge to condense and recycle. This minimizes gas emissions under proper charging conditions. Overcharging can cause excessive gassing and damage the battery.

• Vibration Resistance: The cells are compressed before being inserted into the case, enhancing performance and making the battery extremely resistant to vibration. The reduced acid content allows for more plates, increasing overall performance and reliability.

WARNING/Safety Precautions for XS Power 12-V AGM Battery

Caution:

• Do not overcharge the battery. Only use a voltage-limited automatic battery charger set to a maximum of 14.4VDC 0.3VDC.
• This is a sealed battery. Do not attempt to remove the vent caps under the top label.
• Recycle used batteries at an authorized recycling center in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. Battery must be recycled.

Care for XS Power 12-V AGM Battery:

• Charge Voltage Limitation: Never exceed 14.4V for extended periods (5 minutes max). Use a charger with automatic shut-off.
• Charger Compatibility: Some AGM chargers may briefly reach 15.5VDC but will return to 14.4VDC 0.3VDC for the remainder of the charge cycle. If you’re uncertain of your charger’s capabilities, contact the manufacturer.
• Overcharging Damage: Exceeding the voltage will cause the battery to gas, releasing oxygen, which cannot be restored. This results in permanent damage, such as reduced capacity, failure to accept charge, and excessive heating during charging. Damage of this nature will void the warranty.
• Recommended Charger: For optimal performance, use the XS Power IntelliCHARGER (p/n 1005). This fully automatic 3-stage charger prevents overcharging, ensures proper maintenance, and can be left connected during periods of non-use.

Important Notes:

• Never use a charger designed for flooded 12V batteries, even once, with the XS Power AGM battery.
• We recommend disconnecting the battery from the vehicles electrical system during charging.

“Off Season” Maintenance:

• Lead-acid batteries, including AGM types, self-discharge over time. The discharge rate increases with higher ambient temperatures. Store the battery in a cool environment for best results.
• If the voltage drops below 12.6V or storage exceeds 6 months, the battery must be recharged as per the Performance Curve.

Safety Warning: Lead-acid batteries produce explosive gases. Follow these precautions to prevent accidents:

• Never smoke near a battery.
• Avoid sparks or welding near a battery.
• Do not let tools or metal objects touch the battery terminals to prevent short circuits.
• Always wear protective clothing and eye protection when servicing a battery.
• If battery acid comes into contact with skin, flush with water immediately. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.
• Neutralize acid spills with a mixture of baking soda and water.
• Keep batteries out of reach of children.
